Ma Mokshapriya Shakti Saraswati

Ma Mokshapriya is an ordained Swami in the Hindu Tradition. She is an agent of change who teaches self-empowerment—inspiring people to make big changes through her down-to-earth interpretation of complex philosophy. She inspires and guides at the Yogashakti Ashram in Queens, New York. Her direct, approachable, and incredibly loving nature help her students to illuminate their own personal paths with ease and grace.

Mokshapriya always knew she was here to serve. As a small child in Germany, she was asked what she wanted to do when she grew up and replied, “I am going to be in a far-off land teaching about God.” She explored the various Christian religious denominations while in high school and was disappointed to find that none of them felt quite like home to her.

Disillusioned, she gave up her quest. Her desire was re-ignited shortly thereafter when she found yoga and meditation. She felt called to join a yoga ashram and serve there. She began teaching yoga to high school students and was able to get a yoga program accredited for the state of Florida.

In 1978, Mokshapriya met Mataji (Ma Yoga Shakti) in Palm Bay Florida and moved to her ashram. In 1980, Mataji requested that she move to New York to help her establish a new ashram. Aside from working in the printing business and teaching yoga, Mokshapriya took in the huge project of renovating a huge space that became the New York ashram.

Despite opposition, Mataji pushed through and initiated Mokshapriya into the Sanyas order at the Ujjain Kumbh Mela with the reluctant blessing of the Niranjani Achara in 1992.

Also in 1992, Mokshapriya returned to college to earn her undergraduate degree. Despite working, teaching, and helping to care for and run an ashram, she continued on until she received her Ph.D. in Education. Her research led to the writing “Comprehensive Eclectic Yoga Program: A Strategy for Self-Improvement” Curriculum for College.

Mokshapriya met Marianne Mitsinikos in 1998 and together, they established Yoga Teachers Training Institute, truly a one-of-a kind yoga school built on passion and lifetimes of wisdom. The school graduated over 300 of the most qualified yoga teachers today in its lifetime.

Mokshapriya is also a student and channel of Archangel Michael. Under his direction, she has established a retreat center in the Catskills, New York.

Presently, she resided and teaches at the Yogashakti Ashram in Queens, NY. She frequently travels to Haridwar, India and Florida to visit, care for, and teach at the other Ma Yogashakti ashrams
